Artemis 2 in Historic Mission: 4 Astronauts on the Path to New Horizons in Space

Ending the long wait, NASA is taking humanity back to the orbit of the moon with its Artemis 2 mission. This is not just a space trip, but it is also being considered as the first step towards humans setting foot on Mars.

What is the Artemis 2 mission?

Artemis 2 is the second phase of NASA's Artemis program and the first crewed mission. In this mission, four astronauts will orbit the moon in NASA's Orion spacecraft and return to Earth.

Why is this mission historic?

1. Journey after a long break: This is the first time since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972 that humans are going beyond Earth's orbit to the moon.

2.  Diverse crew: This mission will feature the first woman, a black person, and a Canadian astronaut in deep space.

3. Technology test: To test the capabilities of the Orion capsule and SLS rocket, which will help in the future establishment of permanent settlements on the Moon.

The four heroic astronauts of the Artemis 2 mission

The mission will feature four experienced astronauts:

Reid Wiseman: Commander (NASA)

Victor Glover: Pilot (NASA)

Christina Koch: Mission Specialist (NASA)

Jeremy Hansen: Mission Specialist (CSA)

Moments of the journey and next goals

The successful completion of Artemis 2 paves the way for Artemis 3, where humans will land directly on the Moon's south pole.  From the launch of the spacecraft to its landing in the Pacific Ocean, every moment is a huge milestone for science.
